D & D Classic is a prime source for aircraft collectors and restorers looking for custom aircraft sheet metal fabrication. And there's good reason to select D & D for your job. On any given day, there are several aircraft jobs in our shop even though our mainstay is auto restoration. Our metal shop division is devoted exclusively to custom metalshaping projects which range from fenders for a classic coffin - nosed Cord automobile to exact copies of bump cowls for a WACO airplane, etc.

Of special interest to aircraft enthusiasts is the giant Yoder power hammer we use when hammering out sheet metal projects. Reportedly, it spent World War II aboard an aircraft carrier where countless sheet metal repairs and fab jobs were performed during its days at sea. We're proud to continue that noble tradition started many years ago. We also find WACO projects especially rewarding. Maybe it is the fact that our shop is located just a few miles from the original WACO factory grounds in Troy, Ohio. "Working on WACOs is 'kinda in our bloodlines.' says D & D's Roger James, an aviation enthusiast in his own right and owner of a 1934 WACO Cabin YKC, a 1943 L-30558 Aeronca and a 1936 Beechcraft B-17R Stagger-Wing." James points out that our list of WACO repro parts includes:

  • Lower belly pans
  • Strut cuffs
  • Wheel pants
  • Bump cowls
  • Dish pans
  • Cabin interior trim
  • Instrument panel tooling

While hammering out aluminum bump cowls to fit Jacobs engines or wheel pants, cabin and wing strut fairings for WACO aircraft are routine around here, we accept work for other makes and models of original compound-shaped aircraft parts as illustrated in photos 10 - 24 of an Aeronca facelift. We also welcome repair work on original parts. Almost any day, you'll find us restoring an original WACO cowl that has been hacked up and abused over the years. Typically, patches are formed, welded in place and the welds are metal finished till no traces of welds are seen once the cowl is customer ready.

If you need help getting your restoration off the ground, don't fail to call Roger James or Mark Kennison at 937-473-2229 or send us an email at classic5@windstream.net Better yet, stop by our shop in Covington, OH and look things over. You are welcome at any time. Thanks!
